Baalbek and meeting Hezbollah. June / July 2024
The story of my incredible visit to the Beqqa valley can be read here
With the numerous, ongoing conflicts in the region, my visit to the ancient, megalithic site of Baalbek was in the balance even as we arrived in the Beqqa valley and we started to see signs of the fighting as we made our way amongst the refugee camps housing thousands of displaced Syrian people. The UNESCO World heritage of Baalbek is jaw dropping and we can only hope that it is soon safe to continue excavating the area with its complex tunnel system, believed to stretch for miles in all directions.
Staring down the barrel of a captured, Abraham tank was almost as jaw dropping and the nearby Hezbollah museum is a must !
